The following rules have been established
to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, and to preserve
our facilities for their intended use. Cooperation of all participants
is appreciated. Staff have been hired to enforce all facility rules
and regulations. Participants who notice violations of rules/regulations/policy
are asked to bring it to the attention of the staff.
Access
A valid Binghamton University photo ID card is required to access the
East Gym, FitSpace and Group Exercise room during building hours. In
addition, a valid BU ID must be presented to Events Center Staff to
access the track during posted walking/jogging hours.
All current student, faculty and staff BU ID cards are activated for
access privileges to open recreation offerings. Upon purchase, FitSpace
and Group Exercise membership privileges will also be activated on current
BU ID cards. All others who want access must purchase a membership at
the Membership Services Office and obtain a BU ID card from the Registrar's
Office. There may be a delay of up to two business days in some BU ID
cards being available or activated. Damaged cards are the responsibility
of the cardholder to replace.
A $5 day guest pass or $15 week pass is required for guests and visitors.
Passes may only be purchased at the Membership Services Office during
business hours. There are no passes available for purchase in the evenings
or on weekends. Passes may be purchased in advance.
All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to take part in all
activities to the extent of their personal interest. In a voluntary
program, participants assume responsibility for their own well-being
and safety. Consult the University Health Services or your physician
on matters regarding your health status.
No bicycles, smoking, smokeless tobacco,alcoholic beverages or animals
are permitted inside the facility. Turf shoes, cleats, spikes or roller
blades must be removed before entering any indoor facility
Facility Rules
- Participation is at your own risk. Users are responsible
for reading and adhering to posted signs.
- Participation is restricted to adults 18 years of age and older
(or matriculated Binghamton University students). Children under 18
years of age are ONLY permitted to participate in specific programs
as indicated.
- Please be respectful of others throughout the building and
in activity areas. Spitting, inappropriate language, verbal abuse and
fighting will not be tolerated.
- Shirts and non-marking athletic footwear are required (except
for swimming) for participants at all times. No sandals, jeans (denim
material), or boots are allowed in activity areas.
- In order to keep facilities clean and safe for use, please
wipe feet when entering the building.
- Participants are encouraged to attend to matters of personal
hygiene.
- All personal belongings should be locked in lockers during
facility use. No coats or bags are allowed inside any activity area.
- Gallon jugs, smoking, smokeless tobacco, alcoholic beverages,
and gum are not permitted. Beverage containers must have a lid. Only
water bottles are permitted on court surfaces.
- Please be considerate of other users. You may be required to
limit the length of your workout or activity based on posted guidelines
in the each area.
- Equipment and facilities should be used for their intended
purpose. Modification is prohibited. Please report equipment malfunction
or damage to a staff member.
Walking/Jogging
Participants must have clean dry shoes;
must walk on track (in Events Center) or outside cones (in East Gym);
joggers should use inside lanes and walkers should use outside lanes.
Fitness areas
Do not drop or throw weights; re-rack
all plates, dumbbells, and attachments after each use; and wipe off
equipment after use.
East Gym Pool
Swimmers must wear a bathing suit and
shower in locker room prior to entering pool; running is prohibited
on pool deck; pollution of pool is prohibited (e.g urination, blowing
of nose, etc.); and circle swim must be followed at all times when indicated.
Racquetball/Squash courts
Users are strongly encouraged
to wear protective eye gear when using the courts. To signal the court
user(s) that you wish to enter the court, please switch off and on the
light only when play is stopped. Do not open door while play is in session.
Some equipment is available for check-out at the East Gym lobby front
desk
Tennis courts
Tennis courts are for tennis play only;
use of the courts for private lessons is strictly prohibited; courts
are available on a first-come, first-serve basis; and courts are closed
during inclement weather.
Outdoor fields & track
Classes, practices, competitions
and other scheduled activities have priority usage of the track &
fields; no golfing or alcoholic beverages are permitted in outdoor
areas; rollerblades, bicycles, skateboards, pets, strollers, and cleats
are not allowed on track; for safety reasons they are closed during
periods of inclement weather. Track lanes 1-4 are reserved for varsity
only & lanes 5-8 are for recreational use.
Family Swim Hours
Family Swim hours are designed to provide BU students, faculty and staff members an opportunity recreate with their dependant children and/or souse (significant other).
- Each adulte (over 18yrs) BU ID card holder with East Gym access is able to bring 1 other adult guest and no more than 3 children per adult present.
(i.e. 1 adult = 3 children max., 2 adults = 6 children max.)
- Children must be supervised by an adult (over 18 years) at all times.
- Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult IN the
pool.
- Children must adhere to children swim rules posted in pool area and must wear tight fitting rubber pants or specially designed
swim diapers in the pool (no regular diapers)
Outdoor areas are patrolled by building staff and University Police
to enforce rules.
Equipment, Locker and Towel
Service
Some recreational equipment (i.e. basketballs, volleyballs, tennis racquets)
for unstructured activities is available with a valid BU ID at the East
Gym front desk on a limited basis. Borrowers assume responsibility for
the cost of replacement in case of loss or damage. A posted list indicates
current replacement cost for equipment. The department provides equipment
for most structured activities. Outdoor camping equipment is also available
for rental.
Day lockers are available in the East and West Gym main locker rooms
free of charge (you must bring your own lock). Quarter lockers are available
for daily use in the East Gym only. Students, faculty and staff who
wish to have a locker in the East Gym for longer periods of time may
purchase a locker and towel service on a semester or annual basis at
the Membership Services Office. Lockers must be renewed in person before
the expiration date in order to continue using the same locker number
and combination.
It is recommended that users secure personal belonging in lockers and
valuables (e.g. watches, jewelry, cell phone) be left at home. Do not
leave personal items unattended. Campus Recreational Services and Binghamton
University are not responsible for any lost or stolen items, including
those locked in a locker.
Violation
of any stated or posted rules, regulations or policies; malicious
use or defacing of facilities; verbal abuse of staff; or lack of cooperation
with staff can result in notification of University Police, removal
from facility, judicial action or loss of membership.
